#antiblackfriday
This Black Friday, we’ve decided to be a bit rebellious.
Instead of encouraging impulse buying and mass consumption through discounts, we’re doing the opposite: this particular Friday, we’re increasing our prices for 30% and will donate any potential profit to Stop! Micro Waste, a Berlin-based nonprofit organisation dedicated to reducing micro plastics in our oceans, lakes and rivers.
... and did you know that plastic pollution is causing one of the biggest problems humankind has ever faced?
Most of us wear man-made fibres such as polyester every day. It’s what our yoga pants and swim wear are made of and is hidden in a lot of clothing we wear daily.
And with each wash, countless tiny plastic particles called microfibres are released and make their way into our oceans, rivers and lakes.
There, they cause an even bigger problem: they concentrate pervasive bacteria and pollutants and are then consumed by fish and other aquatic beings causing them to suffer from gastrointestinal infections, which in turn often result in reproductive problems and starvation. And slowly, those problems are working their way up the food chain - turning micro plastics into a huge health risk for us human beings too.
Although we only create garments made of natural fibers and line our swim wear solely with recycled polyester made of recovered ocean debris, we've realized it's not enough.
So we decided to do our part - or at least start somewhere.
Join us.
