A deep dive into the origin of Klein Blue...
We dipped our new creations in a wondrous blue that’s been impacting the art and design world since the late 1950s… Klein blue. To us, this vibrant shade of blue is as timeless as it is modern, making it the perfect hue for our essentials. And we also love that it stands for freedom and liberation…
As the story goes, French artist Yves Klein fell in love with the colour blue when looking at the azure skies of the French Riviera. In pursuit of capturing the intensity of this vivid colour, Klein collaborated with a Parisian art paint supplier to develop a distinctive blend of pigment and binder. This resulted in the creation of a vibrant and radiant blue, which he famously named International Klein Blue (IKB).
This distinctive shade became a cornerstone of Klein's artistic practice, symbolising freedom and transcending traditional boundaries. Klein used ‘his’ blue in various mediums, including monochromatic paintings, sculptures, and installations. Today, Klein Blue remains iconic in the world of art and design, recognised for its boldness and evocative qualities.
